Mission
Being a special needs teacher for 22 years in the Forest Hills Public School District
in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has made me keenly aware of the lack of motivation and
self-esteem by many special needs students. In addition, more than often these
students are not encouraged to participate in many educational programs because of their
disability.
It was because of these factors that I became interested in creating a program that can
change the attitudes and perceptions of these students to love learning, especially as it
relates to science, mathematics, and technology. This is why Space Is Special Inc.
was created in 1989. Since that time, we have had great success in reaching the
special needs students.
Also, Space Is Special has created a unique partnership with the U.S. Space Camp to
offer programs and opportunities for special needs students
